Our story: The origins of StraightUp

Back pain - who hasn't experienced it? In everyday life, we often find ourselves slouching, walking around with slumped shoulders or sinking deep into our office chair. Such postural habits not only put strain on the spine, but also weaken the very muscles that are supposed to stabilise us. When we looked more closely at this problem, we quickly realised one thing: good posture is often the key - but achieving and maintaining it is anything but easy. Like many others, we have tried various solutions - from rigid posture belts to so-called ‘intelligent’ posture trainers. But these often fail to really support everyday life: They are uncomfortable, inaccurate or just plain frustrating. This frustration became a drive. There had to be a better way. It was precisely at this point that our paths - we, the two engineers Erik and Marcus - crossed with Tobias Baierle, an experienced physiotherapist. Tobias faces the challenges of poor posture every day in his practice. He also searched in vain for a product that would provide his patients with meaningful support - not just during therapy, but beyond. He also lacked a tool that could actively support him during treatment. This is how the idea for StraightUp was born: a truly intelligent posture trainer that starts where others fail. With combined expertise from physiotherapy, sensor technology and AI, we started to develop a solution that takes a holistic approach to posture - technically sound, practical and with people at the centre.
